Battlefield [Classic Doctor Who]

Doctor Who has long been my favorite show, and lately I have been revisiting old episodes for the first time in a long time. I haven’t been doing this in any sort of systematic way–rather, I pop through the series randomly. In fact, sometimes, my daughter and I will use the internet to generate a random story number and then just watch that. Lately, precipitated by Doctor Who being pulled from the Australian Britbox, I started going through a lot of episodes quite quickly, as I’ve come to realise I cannot always count on this show always being available to me so easily.

Doctor Who – All the Years – 1989

Doctor Who – All The Years is a quick examination of what was happening in the world of Doctor Who over all its years of existence. I’m not attempting to create a thorough history–just brief look back at the real-life timeline of my favorite TV show. Go back to the beginning and read about 1963 here.

Dragonfire [Classic Doctor Who]

Doctor Who has long been my favorite show, but until recently rewatchings of old episodes have been few and far between.  This has changed in the last couple of years as I have been using birthday and Christmas money to buy some of the old episodes, usually enjoying them with one or two of my nerdier daughters. This year, though, my wife and I bought a year of Britbox for each other as a gift, which gives me access to nearly all of classic Who. My middle daughter and I decided to watch a story, and when I asked her which Doctor she wanted to see, she said her favorites are the Second and the Seventh. We’ve seen most of the existing Second Doctor stories so we went to Dragonfire, because it’s not too long and she’s a big Ace fan.

Remembrance of the Daleks [Classic Doctor Who]

Doctor Who has long been my favorite show, but in recent years rewatchings of old episodes have been few and far between.  But recently I decided to spend some of my 50th birthday spending money on some of these adventures, and enjoy them with one or two of my nerdier daughters.

Doctor Who: Short Trips – Volume III [Big Finish]

Thanks to the wild world of inexpensive deals on a website called Humble Bundle, I’ve added all sorts of odd offerings from Big Finish Productions to my collection. These guys have been making original Doctor Who audio material since 1999. Most notably that’s been full-cast audio dramas featuring actors and characters from the TV series, but it has also expanded into all sorts of ancillary material.

One of these lines is Short Trips, which is a collection of short stories set in the Doctor Who universe. One of my purchases included four of these collections.

Doctor Who: Ruth Clayton–Who the What?! Fan theories abound!

As mentioned recently, and as mentioned in every Doctor Who related blogpost or Facebook status in the last week, there are big and controversial revelations about the universe of Doctor Who that are afoot in the latest series.

12 Times Doctor Who has Reinvented Itself

Very soon, on October 7 2018, Doctor Who will make its way back to our TV screens for the 11th season of the modern TV series.  And when it does, it will in many ways be a whole new program, compared to what we saw last:  a new Doctor (with a new gender), new companions, new showrunner.  Probably a new version of the theme song and a new opening title sequence, a new TARDIS set and a new sonic screwdriver. And certainly a new story direction, with plot-lines like redeeming the Master or identifying the Hybrid a thing of the past.
