I Used That in a Story One Day!

A while ago, I had a minor but amusing incident on a road near my house.  I detailed this event in a previous post, part of my series entitled I’m Gonna Use That in a Story Someday… (seems like I haven’t written one of those in a while).

But just in the interest of being a completist, I wanted to mention here that I eventually did in fact use that idea in a story!

The story is called The Incident at Edmuss Rise, and it’s an interactive murder mystery party game.

I’ve long been fascinated…well no, that’s too strong of a word, let’s say…interested in the name Justin Case. For no other reason than the silly play on words with “just in case”.  (I have a similar interest in the name “Justin Time” – but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that name used as a fictional character before.)

I’m Gonna Use That In A Story Someday (#5)

A while ago I was thinking about the names of certain animals (as you do), particularly those who have “compound-animal” names.  You know, like “bullfrog” or “tiger shark”.  I got to thinking about what sort of animal would you have if you were to reverse those compound names.  You could get wind up some interesting fauna, the sort of thing you might find on the Island of Dr. Moreau or in a John Carter-esque fantasy story. 

The Worst Radio Station in the World (I’m Gonna Use That in a Story Someday…#4)

There is a radio station in my hometown that my family and I enjoy listening to sometimes.  It’s got a positive ethos and avoids crude humor.  Unfortunately, I often find the DJ banter a bit boring to listen to, as if they don’t really know how to engage in interesting or humorous discussion without becoming rude or unpleasant.  It’s not the worst radio station in the world, not by a long shot.  But listening to it recently inspired me to think of the most boring radio spot I could come up with.

I was talking to someone recently about the difficulties you occasionally have with getting jobs done right from tradesman, or when you have problems with purchases and need repairs, etc.

Today’s initial ideas both came to me from observations made while standing in the city for a couple of hours collecting donations for charity.  Many people were walking by, and a large city clock was in full view.
