My name is Ben McClure, and I started making movies when I was a kid – around 11 years old. I continued making movies as I was growing up, and continued doing it as a hobby – even when I was studying film at college, or working in low budget TV in New York, or traveling overseas for my current work.
There are lots of other things that I’m interested in as well. I enjoy comic books (Legion of Super-Heroes, Astro City, and many others), cats, lateral thinking puzzles, playing games with friends, skiing, interactive murder mystery games, TV & movies, and more. I’m married and have three beautiful and unpredictable daughters. I work as a full time volunteer for a Christian missionary society, and I get to travel internationally pretty regularly to make films for different cultural groups.
But all along, films and other audio-visual storytelling have always been something I enjoyed because they were fun to make, watch, and share.

Why “Blue Towel Productions”?
When I was a kid, a while after I started making movies, I got the idea that many young film makers do that my films should have a “production company” name behind them. I started dwelling on it, and eventually came up with “Blue Towel Productions.”
Why? Well, I’m actually not sure where the name came from. It may have been in part inspired by the prominence of towels within The Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, my favorite book at the time. Beyond that, I’m not sure. But it’s stuck ever since, and in the years since there have been movies, audio dramas, songs, and even interactive mystery games produced under it’s auspices.
In the old days, I tried to stick an actual blue towel in as many of my projects as I could. There was even a specific blue towel that I would use repeatedly. But that’s all behind me now.
