Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Pegasus [7.12]

Riker’s former commanding officer arrives on board the Enterprise, using his rank as an admiral to usurp Picard’s authority on  a secret mission to recover their ship, the Pegasus, which has long been thought lost in an incident in which a young Riker protected his Captain from other mutinying officers.  This creates conflicted loyalties for Riker and strain in his relationship with Picard.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Season Six Summary

Season Six of Next Generation is beginning to show a few signs of growing thin, but overall still makes for enjoyable viewing.  The thin-ness is really the same as for Season Five – there are no big story-arcs winding up.  Indeed, there aren’t really any big story-arcs winding down either.  Those all finished a couple of years prior, and the new ones are really being saved for Deep Space Nine.  We also see the roles of various regular fixtures on board the ship sort of peter out, such as Guinan, Alexander, Ro, and the O’Briens.  Though some will show up one more time next year, basically their presence as regular parts of the Next Generation landscape end on a whimper this year.

What we do get is a bunch of stand-alone episodes, including some great of ones. 

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Timescape [6.25]

Picard, Troi, Data and Geordi, en route to the Enterprise after a conference, encounter a series of odd temporal distortions.  Eventually, they find that the entire ship is frozen in a moment in time, during what is apparently a battle with a Romulan warbird. 

Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Chase [6.20]

Picard’s old archeology professor comes on board the Enterprise and invites Picard on a mysterious expedition.  Picard refuses, but changes his mind when his professor is attacked and killed for his information.  The Enterprise then embarks on a quest to discover a secret message that has been secretly encoded into the DNA of life forms from many different worlds. 

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Birthright, Part II [6.17]

Worf finds himself a prisoner in a camp in which Klingons and Romulans have learned to live peacefully together, but only because the Klingons have given up their warrior ways.  Worf must face his own prejudices when he realizes the woman he has become attracted to is in fact half-Romulan.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Next Phase [5.24]

Attempting to help a Romulan ship in distress, Geordi and Ro are apparently killed in a transporter accident.  In reality, they have been sent out of phase, becoming invisible and intangible to the crew.

Picard discovers that Spock has moved to Romulus in an attempt to support an underground movement in favor of reunification between Romulus and Vulcan.

Picard is informed that the famed Ambassador Spock has abruptly and mysteriously left Vulcan to go to Romulus.  Concerned that he may have defected, Picard and Data go after him. 

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Redemption, Part II [5.1]

The Klingon civil war is well underway between the forces of the family Duras against the forces of Gowron, which include Worf and his brother Kurn.  Picard organizes a Federation task force to create a sensor blockade which will reveal the involvement of the Romulans in supporting the Duras family.  Data captains one of the starships in this blockade. 

Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Mind’s Eye [4.24]

Geordi is kidnapped by the Romulans and secretly brainwashed into assassinating a Klingon governor in order to break up their alliance with the Federation.
