So lately I made a Youtube video, for the first time (I’ve made films before, and put them on Youtube, but I never made a video specifically to just say stuff on Youtube) in which I share my 101 Films That I Love the Most. You can see the video and read all about it here.

My relatively concrete and rule-bound morality has always made it hard for me to easily get into films where the protagonists are criminals – thieves, robbers, etc.  Yet for years movies have told the stories of criminals, often making them lovable, heroic and fun.

But for the purposes of this point, we’re not worrying too much about whether the robbers are heroes or not, we’re just talking about what makes good movie scenes.

I think this is a tough one for me.  We’ve all seen movies that have disappointed us, but how often can I truly say that the trailer or the promotional strategy was genuinely misleading, and not just making the film look better than it was? 

The Martian (for realsies this time)

So, in my last post I promised I’d actually talk about The Martian, the movie – not just about random little details about the American space program or trivia about actors that were connected with The Martian.  The short story is that I really liked this movie, and I think I’m liking it more as time goes on.  This I think is pretty significant for me as I feel like often there are movies that I like when I’m watching them, but later as I’m thinking of it I realize all sorts of things that bother me about it.  With The Martian, so far there’s none of that.  There’s really not a thing that sticks out as just being kind of stupid, which really, with me, almost never happens.
