Doctor Who: Looking Back at 47 Days #10 – Fan-Pleasing Moments

A few years ago, I did a series of 47 daily posts which all looked at different questions related to the revival series of Doctor Who, focusing on stuff I like about the show. I worked out a series of questions in advance and then picked one randomly for each day. I’ve decided to revisit the series to see how my opinions may or may not have changed, and to bring two of my daughters into the discussion, since they are both big fans and have recently finished watching the revival series.

Doctor Who: 13 (Updated) Things I’d love to See Before I See the 13th Doctor!

A while ago I posted a list of things that I wanted to see in Doctor Who before we were introduced to the 13th Doctor.  Now, with the season behind us, we have only one episode–the Christmas special–still before us.  How did I go?  And now that those 12 episodes are behind us, what is on my new wishlist of things I want to see before Peter Capaldi bows out this December?

Doctor Who: The Magician’s Apprentice (with Spoilers)

Well, Doctor Who is back!  The season began with showrunner Steven Moffat’s The Magician’s Apprentice, an uneven but overall strong episode that definitely got me excited for the next 11 weeks of television. Continue reading Doctor Who: The Magician’s Apprentice (with Spoilers)

Peter Capaldi’s First Season in Doctor Who – 12 Highlights

And so, we now live in a world where Peter Capaldi’s first season as the Doctor is behind us.  What’s our response?  Well, like all seasons of all TV shows (pretty much), there are good episodes and bad episodes, things to celebrate and things to hopefully avoid in the future.  Overall, though – it was a pretty good run of episodes.  Better, I’d say, than the year or year and a half prior.  And so as a fan, I’m pretty happy.

What made me happy?  Here are some of the reasons.  12 reasons, in fact.  Because it’s the 12th Doctor, there were 12 episodes, and it’s the show’s 12th season. Continue reading Peter Capaldi’s First Season in Doctor Who – 12 Highlights

Doctor Who Season 8 Finale – Thoughts and Reactions (and Spoilers, if that’s still a thing)

So, I was in Indonesia, getting ready to fly home.  The Bali airport has good free wi-fi (even better than the Nethersphere, apparently), so I had a quick look and found that the first part of the two-part finale – Dark Water – was expiring from the ABC website in 46 minutes!  And, international restrictions meant that I couldn’t watch it right then and there.  So…I bought it off iTunes, and watched it on the plane.  Then I came home to Australia, and that night, I caught Death in Heaven on the ABC’s site.  (I’m a big believer in watching the show legally – amongst other reasons so that in whatever small way, my vote “counts” toward keeping my favorite programs alive.) Doctor Who : Who is Missy?

OK, first things first: I am writing this in Indonesia, and I have not seen either part of the season ending two-parter of Doctor Who – neither Dark Waters nor Death in Heaven. So I’m aware that probably the question I’m pondering has already been answered, or is on the verge of being so. But for me, it’ll probably be another week at least before I can check it out. But until then, for me, it hasn’t happened yet. Quantum uncertainty and all that.

So, Missy…the mysterious woman that we’ve seen in roughly half of the episodes of Season Eight of Doctor Who, played by Michelle Gomez. Who is she? What’s her story? What secrets does she hold? Continue reading Doctor Who : Who is Missy?
