Doctor Who has long been my favorite show, but until recently rewatchings of old episodes have been few and far between. This has changed in the last couple of years as I have been using birthday and Christmas money to buy some of the old episodes, usually enjoying them with one or two of my nerdier daughters. This year, though, my wife and I bought a year of Britbox for each other as a gift, which gives me access to nearly all of classic Who.

Doctor Who has long been my favorite show, but in recent years rewatchings of old episodes have been few and far between. But lately I decided to spend both some of my 50th birthday spending money and my Christmas spending money on some of these adventures, and enjoy them with one or two of my nerdier daughters. That’s lasted long enough that now I’m doing the same with my 51st birthday money.

If I was an unscrupulous Time Lord with the ability to travel through the fourth dimension and to try to affect changes that I thought would make things better, there’s probably a bunch of stuff I’d do with my favorite TV series, Doctor Who. With my 50th birthday recently past, I’ve been investing a little bit of money and a little bit of time on classic Doctor Who‘s, mostly with my nerdier daughters. For them, this has been seeing things for the first time, while for me it usually amounts to a rewatch.
Doctor Who: Phantoms of the Deep [Big Finish – Fourth Doctor]
And the second season of Big Finish’s Fourth Doctor adventures continues on the positive note set by the last story with another two-part adventure, Phantoms of the Deep, written by Jonathan Morris. The story once again features Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Mary Tamm as the First Romana, and John Leeson as the Second K9 (although he also played the first one).

Doctor Who: The Justice of Jalxar [Big Finish – Fourth Doctor]
Back in 1977, Doctor Who produced a story that became a bit of a classic, The Talons of Weng-Chiang. The story featured some memorable guest characters played by Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter: Henry Gordon Jago and Professor Litefoot. In 2013, in true Big Finish style, the world of licensed Doctor Who audio re-teamed the pair with Fourth Doctor Tom Baker in this tale, The Justice of Jalxar, which is the fourth story in the second series of Big Finish’s Fourth Doctor adventures.
