The Big Finish sampler works! For only the second time, I think, I have gone ahead and bought something that I’d previously heard a portion of as part of Big Finish’s habit of releasing free samples of their work. In this case, the release is a collection of related one part stories that have been released as Shadow of the Daleks.

Doctor Who: Looking Back at 47 Days #45 – Recurring Characters

A few years ago, I did a series of 47 daily posts which all looked at different questions related to the revival series of Doctor Who, focusing on stuff I like about the show. I worked out a series of questions in advance and then picked one randomly for each day. I’ve decided to revisit the series to see how my opinions may or may not have changed, and to bring two of my daughters into the discussion, since they are both big fans and have recently finished watching the revival series.

And so the first “season” of Fourth Doctor adventures from Big Finish comes to a close with this “two part” adventure.  In reality, each of these “parts” is made up of two episodes, and so this story is the only one from this run of stories which is actually the same length as most of the Fourth Doctor’s actual TV adventures.

Doctor Who: The Five Companions [Big Finish]

OK, back to The Five Companions.

As I noted previously, this is “special episode” of Big Finish’s Doctor Who audio line, made available when one subscribes to 12 titles from one of their lines of stories. It’s a bit shorter than a regular Doctor Who audio – about half the length, but treated as one long episode, sans cliff hangers.

Doctor Who t-shirts.  Toy sonic screwdrivers.  Girls wearing bow-ties.  Boys wearing fezzes.  Someone dressed as a Tardis.  People discussing their favorite companions.  Yes, it’s The Day of the Doctor, the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who, on the big screen, and in goofy 3D.
