Doctor Who / The Prisoner Actor Connections

From time to time we’ve been looking at where actors from Doctor Who have shown up in other movies or shows that I’ve enjoyed. Today, we’re looking at The Prisoner, the 1967 British science-fiction espionage dystopian cult classic created by and starring Patrick McGoohan.

Doctor Who – 1977 – All the Years

Doctor Who – All The Years is a quick examination of what was happening in the world of Doctor Who over all its years of existence. I’m not attempting to create a thorough history–just brief look back at the real-life timeline of my favorite TV show. Go back to the beginning and read about 1963 here.

The Avengers 12 – the Complete Emma Peel Megaset – Never, Never Say Die, Epic, The Superlative Seven

The Avengers, before they were Marvel superheroes, were light-hearted spies on British TV.  Dapper agent John Steed, played by Patrick Macnee, had numerous partners over the show’s run, but the most famous of these was scientific genius and martial arts expert Mrs. Emma Peel, played by Diana Rigg.

Doctor Who, etc: Early Adventures, Dan Dare, Jago & Litefoot, Companion adventures–a Big Finish sampler

In the wake of the whole COVID-19 pandemic, Big Finish–most famous for their original licensed Doctor Who audios–began to release a variety of projects for free on a weekly basis.  Some of these are “proper” Doctor Who adventures, some are licensed from other sources, and others are completely original.  I have been taking advantage of these, as I’ve written about here and here and here. This time around we’re looking at a bit of a miscellaneous list of projects that got missed on my previous write-ups.

The Talons of Weng-Chiang [Classic Doctor Who]

I’ve written a few of these posts lately, which have mostly come about because of spending money I received for my 50th birthday.  In this case, however, I bought the DVD for The Talons of Weng-Chiang a long time ago.  I’d made a couple of false starts on it, but only now have gotten round to finishing it–motivated in part by my desire to show it to one of my nerdier daughters.

Doctor Who: The Justice of Jalxar [Big Finish – Fourth Doctor]

Back in 1977, Doctor Who produced a story that became a bit of a classic, The Talons of Weng-Chiang.  The story featured some memorable guest characters played by Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter:  Henry Gordon Jago and Professor Litefoot.  In 2013, in true Big Finish style, the world of licensed Doctor Who audio re-teamed the pair with Fourth Doctor Tom Baker in this tale, The Justice of Jalxar, which is the fourth story in the second series of Big Finish’s Fourth Doctor adventures.

Stuff I’ve Read, Watched, Done #9 – April 21, 2020

Another day, another remote gathering using Zoom or Starleaf.

And in between adjusting for how to do work in our socially distant world, there is also random bouts of entertainment.  Probably the highlight for us in this category over the past week is Pride & Prejudice, the English TV show from 1995.
