Thor: Love and Thunder

In 2017, one of the freshest breaths of fresh air hit the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the form of Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok. It was a treat in terms of visuals, humor, character and story, and easily remains in my Top 5 MCU projects to this day. I know not everyone agrees, obviously, but I really liked it–I’ve loved Taika Waititi as a director for some time now, and this was another winner in my book. Now at the time, all-things Marvel were building to the big mega-event that is now known as Infinity War and Endgame. Now it’s been a couple of years, and the dust from that double-act has settled and reformed, and Marvel is working hard to establish a strong path forward.

Enter Thor: Love and Thunder.

Welcome to a Random Pop Culture Top 10! Though in this case, it’s a Top 12. But to be honest, it’s not really a Top anything. More of a Random Twelve–twelve examples that came to mind, listed in my ascending order of preference. Indeed, one of them especially is pretty bad–a strong contender for a “Bottom 12” list.

In any case, the topic today is Twins in Fiction.

Ford v Ferrari

In late 2019, I had a good run of getting to the cinema (a bit of a treat with a family)…we managed to hit the latest Star Wars film, the most recent Jumanji film, the latest version of Little Women, and Taika Waititi’s most recent project, Jojo Rabbit.  But somehow in the midst of all that, I missed getting to Ford v Ferrari.  Well recently, in these semi-lockdown days, I was finally able to rectify that oversight.

Box-Office Blockbuster Tourney – Round Final!

So as explained before, we are now concluding a seeded tournament-style elimination game amongst each of the US domestic box office champion movies from the last 32 years.  Seeding was done via Rotten Tomatoes scores, with ties broken with Metacritic scores.  Three of our six judges have voted on each match-up of two films, with the winner advancing to the next round and the loser skulking off into obscurity, until we have arrived at today, where we will pick our overall Champion!

Every week in 2018, the plan is that my friend Rod is going to ask me some geeky question that will answer in a post. This week is Week #26, and this question is one that Rod has had out to me for a while but I haven’t known how to deal with:

How would you do a “gritty reboot” version of Peanuts, the famed comic strip by Charles Schultz, as if it were being created by Christopher Nolan?
