Picard finds himself mysteriously moving back and forth between three different eras of his life:  the day when he first came aboard the Enterprise as Captain, far future when he is long-retired, and the “present day.”  In all three time frames he becomes aware of a mysterious anomaly in space that threatens to destroy the universe.  He is also told by Q that he must solve this mystery in order to prove that humanity is worthy to exist.

A life form begins to spontaneously develop aboard the Enterprise through a network of semi-intelligent circuit nodes.  The ship’s systems begin to malfunction as this emergent life form attempts to create a body for itself.  The crew discover that mish-mash of holodeck programs all running at once represent the life forms subconscious, and by interpreting the strange imagery in this “daydream” are able to help the life form and save their own lives.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Journey’s End [7.20]

A treaty with the Cardassians puts several Federation colonies into Cardassian space, including one populated by Native Americans who refuse to move.  Wesley Crusher comes aboard the Enterprise, growing disenchanted with Starfleet.  Disapproving of the recent Federation policy, Wesley stirs up trouble for the Enterprise with the local population.

Returning to the Enterprise after participating in an athletic tournament, Worf finds himself moving into a variety of similar but not identical parallel universes, seemingly randomly.  He must deal with the confusion of finding himself both married to Deanna Troi and being the first officer of the Enterprise.  Eventually, it is realized that Worf had encountered a strange phenomena in space which caused him to shift universes whenever he is close to Geordi’s VISOR.

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Phantasms [7.6]

Data begins to experience inexplicable nightmares that become waking dreams, and lead him to at one point stab Counselor Troi.  It turns out that Data is observing on a subconscious level parasitic organisms that are normally undetectable to Starfleet officers or technology which are feeding on the crew, and interpreting this information through his dreams.  Using the holodeck, the crew is able to determine what is happening and stop it.

Picard, Troi, Data and Geordi, en route to the Enterprise after a conference, encounter a series of odd temporal distortions.  Eventually, they find that the entire ship is frozen in a moment in time, during what is apparently a battle with a Romulan warbird.

Worf hears a rumor that his father, long-thought dead, is actually alive in a Romulan prison camp.  He finds his way there, but instead discovers that his father is dead and that the Klingons seem to be willing prisoners who turn Worf in to their captors.  Meanwhile, an accident leads Data to start dreaming.
