Doctor Who: The Wormery [Big Finish]

With Zagreus now behind us, I’m excited to see where Big Finish takes their monthly adventures of Doctor Who.  Or where they took them, anyway—this is all back from 2003!  In any case, the next cab off the rank is The Wormery, by Paul Magrs and Stephen Cole, featuring the Sixth Doctor as played by Colin Baker.

Doctor Who – Zagreus [Big Finish]

It’s taken me a while but I finally am getting back into some Big Finish listening. The presence of Christmas money hasn’t hurt, and my recent forays into podcasts and audio books have helped to inspire my interest in the medium again. So I decided to carry on my consumption of Big Finish’s main range of Doctor Who audios (it doesn’t hurt that they are really cheap), but I was almost put off by the next one on the list: Zagreus.

Doctor Who: Master [Big Finish]

Master was the 49th entry in Big Finish’s “Main Range” or “Monthly Range” of Doctor Who audios (released back in 2003), that were part of a run of four stories which starred the four Doctors that Big Finish had access to at the time, and which were each named after one of the franchise’s major villains: Omega, Davros, Master and (original to audio) Zagreus. The releases were part of the celebrations for the show’s 40th anniversary. This time around Sylvester McCoy stars as the Seventh Doctor, traveling without a companion, and Geoffrey Beevers co-stars as the Master, a role he had played on TV in The Keeper of Traken and then at least in one audio story before this one (Dust Breeding).

Doctor Who: Davros [Big Finish]

Davros was the 48th entry in Big Finish’s “Main Range” or “Monthly Range” of Doctor Who audios (released back in 2003), and continued a run of four stories which starred the four Doctors that Big Finish had access to at the time, and were each named after one of the franchise’s major villains: Omega, Davros, Master and (original to audio) Zagreus. The releases were part of the celebrations for the show’s 40th anniversary. This time around Colin Baker stars as the Sixth Doctor, traveling without a companion, and Terry Molloy co-stars as Davros, reprising the role that he played on TV three times in the eras of the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors.

Omega was the 47th entry in Big Finish’s “Main Range” or “Monthly Range” of Doctor Who audios (released back in 2003), and was the start of a run of four stories which starred the four Doctors that Big Finish had access to at the time, and were each named after one of the franchise’s major villains: Omega, Davros, Master and (original to audio) Zagreus. This time around Peter Davison stars as the Fifth Doctor, traveling without a companion, and Ian Collier co-stars as Omega, reprising the role that he played on TV over twenty years earlier in Arc of Infinity.

It was a uniquely formatted story, featuring two sets of two episodes each telling parallel stories that could be listened to in either order.

Maggie Stables also featured as Evelyn Smythe, the Sixth Doctor’s audio-only companion.
