It’s Christmas, and you know what that means!
Well, maybe you don’t. In my house, amongst many other things, Christmas-time means the return of the Martian Kings! These are little throwaway trinkets that were in a package that we received from the Netherlands (where my wife was born) a few years ago, which someone in my family (I don’t recall who) called the “Martian Kings” because they look like aliens with crowns.
Except we didn’t throw them away. We kept them and they became a regular part of the decor of our house around the Christmas holidays. They tend to move around, showing up in unusual places in our house, as different ones of us will reposition them from day to day, or even from hour to hour.
Originally, there were six of the guys…

Then for a while there were only five.

Then one got mauled by our dog, and now we just have the four.

And this year, though I have detected a little bit less enthusiasm for the guys, they are still making the rounds.
In our changing world, I appreciate the stability of traditions, such as celebrating the visit of the Martian Kings at the classic Nativity scene.
On this occasion, the whimsical pangolin that my daughter made for her art class was also present at the scene.
So as you can see it’s been a pretty busy and involved holiday season on our end!
I hope you are keeping up with all that Christmas-time means for you!
