Doctor Who / Avengers (Emma Peel episodes) Actor Connections

Lately, I’ve been going through some other movies and shows and finding where there are actors or creative talent that they have in common with Doctor Who.

Also lately, I’ve just finished going through all the “Emma Peel” episodes of the 1960s TV show The Avengers and blogging about each one(starting here), including noting when its guest cast were also people who made appearances in Doctor Who. I was struck by how much crossover there was.

(Daily Doctor Who #255)

How many Doctor Who stories did not have actors who also appeared in The Avengers, I wondered?

And so in this post we will find out, remembering that we’re only talking about the Emma Peel episodes which Diana Rigg co-starred in. I’ll have a look at the others later.

First, it’s worth noting that the same television executive, Sydney Newman, was actually responsible for initiating both programs, so right from the beginning the two series had something in common.

Beyond that, here, listed by Doctor Who story, are all the actors (as well as some other creative personnel) who appeared in the Emma Peel episodes of The Avengers, and the names of those episodes:

And then, obviously when we get into the Eighth Doctors and beyond, there are a lot more stories not listed.

But how will that list look once we go through all the non-Emma Peel episodes of The Avengers?

Time will tell!

  1. When I reflect on how impressed I was by seeing Star Trek actors, regulars and guest stars, shared with other SF classics of the 60s, like The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits and Planet Of The Apes, I am reminded of how particularly engaging it was to first see plenty of British actors in Doctor Who when I was a kid and to later see them on other British shows and films. It was seeing TV episodes and films that shared Star Trek and Doctor Who actors, most naturally SF like Gary Lockwood and Robert Beatty in 2001: A Space Odyssey, that I was always most fascinated by.

  2. It’s certainly fun when you see those guys showing up in other places. I’ve certainly been surprised as I’ve been researching some of these posts.
