Answer:

The contest was to find the actor who played the Doctor who had the most letters in his or her credited name.

So you got Christopher Eccleston, with 20 letters, in a clear first place–four ahead of Patrick Troughton and Richard Hurndall with 16 each. In “last” place are Tom Baker, Jo Martin, and John Hurt, who have only got 8 each.
