Doctor Who Invades the Multiverse: Looney Tunes

Continuing our posts where Doctor Who has managed to sneak its way into other fictional properties, either as a TV show in those worlds, or with concepts from the show existing as real things in those realities, we come to Looney Tunes, or more specifically, the film Looney Tunes: Back in Action from 2003.

(Daily Doctor Who #165)

Back in Action was one of those live action-animated hybrid films, featuring Brendan Fraser as a stuntman and Jenna Elfman as a Warner Bros executive who get wrapped up in zany science fiction / espionage plot. They team up with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, and at one point wind up in Area 52, which is a “Men in Black” type underground world full of “illegal aliens”.

Amongst these things are various Easter Eggs from other science fiction movies, including This Island Earth (1955), The Day of the Triffids (1962), Fiend Without A Face (1958), and…Doctor Who.

Specifically, the Daleks, who, rumor has it, were an inclusion that actor Steve Martin insisted upon.

As things go on, all the aliens start going crazy and attacking everyone, with the Daleks nearly exterminating Brendan Fraser and Jenna Elfman before they escape and the story moves on.

Interestingly, it seems that the Daleks were actually used in the film without permission, the producers believing wrongly that they were in the public domain.
