A while ago I mentioned how we’d decorated our home for Christmas, and I kept saying I’d write up a post about it, but then I kept forgetting.
Now it’s Christmas Eve and we’re just barely getting a handle on all of our preparations (the big day starts here in 160 minutes! So we’ve run out of time to really talk about stuff at length (that’s the way it is Christmas, isn’t it…so much to do and so little time).
Still I didn’t want to let the moment pass without sharing something of the way we build up to the celebrations…
Christmas in our home is an eclectic affair, which is something mostly picked up from my side of the family
This is fairly obvious by noting the lack of a theme to our tree, for example. This is something that is drawn from my side of the family, mostly.
Although my wife’s more European heritage also comes through significantly.
Plus, let us not forget that we live in neither of our birthplaces (the USA / the Netherland) but Australia, as represented by some of the special animals at the Nativity…
(Plus a lion on the stable roof, apparently, which was a joke by my daughter that nobody bothered to correct).
And as regular readers would now, our home is also a regular stopover spot for the Martian Kings at this time of year…
These guys have been regular visitors at Christmastime for years, as I’ve written about before.
This year brought with us some new decorations that we hadn’t had before. For example, these festive paper chins that now adorn our ceiling…
…which look even more special with these metal storytelling pieces attached to them…
And we also have this stand-up advent calendar courtesy of my mother in America…
And an extra set of lights that live in a vase on our shelf…
Excitingly, they change colors!
There is also a lot of Peanuts themed stuff in my home (I like Peanuts, and thus it has become an easy gift idea in some quarters). This year, they have become part of the decor as well…
The story continues…
And here you can see the whole context…
Christmas is only minutes away now (the real-life work of Christmas Eve took me away from finishing this right away).
So, however your home is decorated, whatever you are celebrating today, whatever you are dealing with in life…from all of us to all of you, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Peace, Hope & Joy!
