Today’s spoon is more accurately called a ladle, but wikipedia calls a ladle “a type of spoon used for soup, stew, or other foods”, so I think we’re safe.

In this case, the food was stewed tomatoes, which I made as part of a breakfast for a friend who was visiting.  It’s a small ladle, with a short handle and a scoop that’s perfectly sized for doling out individual portions of tomato and that sort of thing.

It’s also nicely decorated, with some lovely molded flowers.  I’m not a horticulturist so I have no idea what sort of flowers they are.

And unlike the other spoons that I’ve listed here so far, it’s actually made of silver, or at least its silver-plated.  On the back is a stamp that I originally read as “ROGERS&ERSA” but I realize more likely says “ROGERS&BROA1” which refers to a company called “Rogers & Bro” and the quality of silver-plating, “A1”.

It’s hard for me to figure out exactly what “A1” actually means but it seems to be a higher-end quality of plating.

The spoon itself was a gift from my mother to my wife, bought I believe at a shop in or near Cape May, New Jersey, where she was in the habit of vacationing with my father and some friends.  The next time I speak with her I will try to find out more.

In the meantime, for some more Spoon-related media, here is a an audio clip of an unknown personality who sounds like they are the radio, who apparently also has an appreciation of spoons.

See you next time on Blue Towel Productions for more of The Daily Spoon as part of The Month of the Spoon.
