Supergirl Season 2, Episode 1 Review Online

So, I’ve started writing reviews of Supergirl for a website called cultfix.co.uk and the first one is online here.

It was a fun episode, full of all the stuff that makes Supergirl a cool show as well as all of the stuff that makes it kind of stupid.   What elevates it above all that and makes it into something special is the addition of Superman to the cast (at least for two weeks).  Suddenly, the program feels like it’s not pretending anymore.  Even though it’s still about Superman’s less famous cousin, the silly conceit of never being able to show the guy is over now, so it feels like we’re really in this universe, and not just off to the side of it.

Of course, the other fun little touch was the inclusion of a bunch of Easter egg references to the classic 1978 Superman movie – references to Lex Luthor setting of an earthquake in California, someone in a helicopter talking about how statistically speaking flying is the safest form of travel, and most notably when Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant screams out “Miss Teschmacher!!” in a very Gene Hackmanesque way.

Anyway, it’s interesting to be writing for a new forum.  Go and have a look and let me know what you think.
