Presenting: A Movie About Itself

A Movie About Itself

Leonardo da Vinci famously said, apparently, that “Art is never finished, only abandoned.”

A Movie About Itself is a film that started production almost 2 1/2 years ago (although it was conceptualized a lot earlier than that), and has progressed in fits and starts ever since.  The film is a peculiar blend of drama and documentary, mostly silly comedy but with a dose of genuine earnestness thrown in there.  I actually thought I finished the movie late last year but after showing it to an audience this January, I decided there were a few points that were a bit needlessly obscure.

So now we are here, a couple of reshoots later, and it’s time to “abandon” A Movie About Itself, and release it out into the wild.

Having said that, here you go.  Feel free to comment, critique, review, etc, and most of all, to enjoy. It’s been an interesting process exorcising this particular cinematic spirit out of my system, I’m looking forward to seeing what comes along next.

  1. “Have we succeeded? Did we do what we set out to do? I don’t know.”

And neither do I. But it had some funny moments.

  2. It’s a bold statement. A cinematic omphaloskepsis of epic proportions. I hope the Sequel about itself can have twice the budget even if it ends up being a tired retried of this instant classic.
